New strikes hit Gaza as Israel-Hamas fighting resumes

Palestinian group says at least 60 arrested in West Bank since Sunday

The Palestinian Prisoners Society says that at least 60 people have been arrested by the Israeli military in the occupied West Bank since Sunday evening, including former prisoners.

The society said that the arrest operations were concentrated in the Bethlehem area.

Some of those detained had been subsequently released, it said. The IDF had previously said there were 29 arrests.

The society said that the total number of arrests since October 7 had risen to 3,540.

Some context: Israel has been operating two distinct justice systems in the West Bank since it captured the area in 1967. Palestinians living there fall under the jurisdiction of Israel’s military court system, where judges and prosecutors are uniformed Israeli soldiers. Meanwhile, Jewish settlers there are subject to civilian courts.
